ALASKA: Anti-divorce Sarah Palin quits politics for her husband and kids

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why Sarah Palin quit her job as governor of Alaska. The woman has had it with the pundits, comedians, politicians and detractors, and John McCain! Wouldn’t you, if you were in her shoes?

Plus, the woman has a family to protect. She has young daughters trying to grow up who make mistakes like everybody else. She has a child with down syndrome. She has a grandson who is, for all purposes, estranged from his teenaged father. She has a husband who likely is thinking about divorce because he can’t get enough alone time with his wife.

I would have quit. Are you kidding me? Phock dut. No job is worth my children and my husband being miserable. The media has been absolutely relentless with this woman since John McCain, in his desperate bid to be the next president, plucked her out of the Alaskan ice fields and asked her to be his vice-presidential running mate. Everybody has forgotten about John. But they haven’t forgotten about Sarah. And I am not even Republican. But I can sympathize with this woman because she was minding her own business trying to do her job as governor of Alaska and this man came and disturbed her peace and took her out of blissful obscurity and turned her life upside down. Then he and his campaign staff turned against her when things didn’t work out quite the way he planned, as if it is her fault he lost. IT WAS HIS FAULT HE LOST, NOT SARAH’S!

But look at the fallout for her kids. Poor Bristol got herself knocked up at eighteen and decided to keep her baby. What a crime. What a big, big crime. These are the same people who would have castigated her for ending the pregnancy. She stepped up and had her baby. Leave the girl the phock alone. Then we have grown men making sexual innuendos about the younger daughter, whatsherface? I mean, as a mother, this must just gall Sarah Palin to no end. These are her children! What mother would be happy with this nonsense directed at their kids when the kids didn’t ask for any of this?

Now, these nincompoops are talking about the fact that she quit to run for national office. How incredibly obtuse! I am not even a politician and even I can see that if that is what she planned to do, there is no way she would have quit as governor. She quit as governor because right now, being Sarah Palin and being in politics sucks. It sucks, folks. That’s why she quit. She wants to go back to private life and let them find another victim, somebody else whose family they can destroy.

I feel bad for her because I think she only gave them more ammunition. Once you are it you are it. And Sarah Palin is it. They are going to be all over this story like hungry sharks, believe me. It will be a feeding frenzy like you would not believe. Well, at least the Michael Jackson story is still hot. So some of the attention will be consumed by that. And the Sanford guy in South Carolina. He’ll absorb some of that unwanted attention too.

Still, they are going to analyze this move till there is nothing left. Sarah may need to move to rural Turkmenistan for about ten years to get them to forget about her and her kids. And even then, I’m not sure if they will.

Poor Sarah. I feel bad for her and her family even though I’m not Republican.

The problem with Sarah Palin is that she is a quitter and she is a hypocrite and she is an opportunist. She is a wolf in sheep’s clothing masquerading as a public servant. I have no sympathy for her. Shame on anybody who feels sorry for this pop star wannabe. She’s embarassing! This notion that that woman could have easily been the next president of the United STates sends shivers down my spine. Can you imagine? The minute things got a little hard, she quits? She quits? That’s ridiculous. If I Alaskan I would hang my head in shame over this reactionist, spineless whiner I voted into office. Did you hear she’s now threatening to sue this blogger for defamation? Now she’s trying to chill free speech. On the 4th of July. I swear the woman is a PR disaster. A total train wreck. It’s embarassing.

oh, and she’s also a bully who got exactly what was coming to her. Beyatch!

Well, look, I am not Sarah Palin’s resident defender, okay? I’m just saying that one human being to another, I always try to put myself in the other person’s shoes before I throw stones at them. I’m not always successful, but I try. And if I were Sarah, this pressure would be unworthwhile, particularly if I did not have national political ambitions, and with the election long gone, yet this nightmare continues for me and my family and the person responsible for this, goes free and clear with no media scrutiny. This is not right. That’s what I think in my heart. It’s not right. And if I were Sarah, my family and my personal happiness and peace would mean more than continuing on this path to prove I’m not a quitter. Who the hell cares what people think after a certain point? I mean, a lot of times you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t. So I say, take the path of least resistance. Take the path that makes the most sense to you. In this case, Sarah pretty much felt that path meant a speech which effectively said, “take this job and shove it.” And I can’t say I blame her.

And I am not saying that Sarah is a good person, or what have you. I don’t know her. I saw a personality that was thrust into the public arena during a national presidential election. But who is Sarah Palin privately? What are her hurts and fears and worries? What makes hear tick? I have no clue. And it is that private individual I feel bad for. She was minding her business and John McCain asked her to run with him because he needed to make a big statement. And she said yes. Should she spend the rest of her life paying for that ill conceived decision to say yes? No, I don’t think so. I think we have all gotten our pound of flesh and should leave this woman, this human being alone.

I also don’t think her kids should have to endure this unrelenting media attention. That is not right. I would not want that for myself or my children. Would you? We don’t have to share the same politics. But we share humanity. And I just think she got, or is getting, a bum rap. It’s like, enough already. Stop for a minute and put yourself in the shoes of this person, this human being, this wife, this mother. Stop for a minute. If this were you, how would you feel? And is it fair?

And finally, someone called her a bully. She may be, she may not be. But I think that what has happened to her since her nomination as Vice president rises to the level of bullying behavior. In other words, those who are calling her a bully are themselves bullies. And I just think we should be careful what we sow in life. We should put ourselves in the shoes of another before we cast stones.

politics is a contact sport. If she couldn’t handle it, she should have stayed out and be a hockey mom. She’s a wimp. A thin-skinned wimp. too girly for big boy politics.

  4. phoebes-in-santa fe says:

Sarah Palin’s first mistake – among many – was accepting the McCain campaign’s VP invite. She’s either not smart enough to realise she didn’t have the qualifications to be one (decrepit) heartbeat away from the duties and responsibilities of the world’s highest office OR is not smart enough to even KNOW what those qualifications are.

And as for the children, I’m a mother of two non-special needs children and even I know enough that you do not drag a Downs infant from pillar to post as a campaign prop. I wouldn’t take a 7 year old and a 14 year old out of school and a secure daily environment to hit the campaign trail as campaign props.
That’s what those children are to her – campaign props. Same goes for the son-in-Iraq and the pregnant out-of-wedlock daughter and grandchild.

The women who should have been the most insulted about the Palin pick are the Republican women like Olympia Snowe, Kay Bailey Hutchison, and Susan Collins, just to name a few. They are hard-working, knowledgeable politicians who have advanced to their Senate seats through utilising the basics of Politics 101. Good constituent service and public works. They face the fire of political gamesmanship without weeping about the press picking on them. They don’t give up their seats because things grow too rough for them. I usually don’t agree with Republican politics, but I certainly admire those three women and many other Republican women politicians.

Cry me a river for Sarah Palin. Just don’t expect me to wade in it.

Phoebes, I missed you! Look, I can’t change who I am. I am a hypersensitive human being who can’t help but empathise with those that most people turn their backs on, and even persecute. Hilariously, I am a DEMOCRAT and have no reason to worry my head about Sarah. I just think that, as I said, she (the person, not the politician) is being given a bum rap. And I am uncomfortable with that. I think it is unfair. Sure, life is not supposed to be fair. But I don’t have to like that about the experience. I can still call something unfair on its face. I can still dislike unfairness. Sarah Palin is a wife and mother. Sarah Palin is a young woman in her prime who dared to have a career and ambition. If she over-reached a little bit, I just can’t castigate her for that. We all over-reach in some way sometimes. But I know better than to argue with you or anyone else on this. So I won’t. We will agree to disagree. And I still love the fact that she told everybody to take their job and shove it where the sun don’t shine! :)

  5. phoebes-in-santa fe says:

Okay, admin, we’ll agree to disagree. I do think the whole Palin ordeal since last August has been amusing at best and disquieting at worst. I meant what I said about her possibly being a (decrepit) heartbeat away from actual power. The mind boggles and the Obama coffers were filled in September and October by Dems and Independents (and even by a few more-than-horrified Republicans) at the very thought of a possible Palin-in-office scenerio!

Want to know what I think of the Sanford mess? I think he is totally in love with Maria and should follow his heart. He ain’t ever coming back to Jenny and she should know that by now. And, if he comes back, physically, anyway, he’ll always wonder about the true love he let slip away. Their marriage is dead and it should be buried.

  6. admin says:

Phoebes, I also think if he is in love with Maria, he should be man enough and do something about it. He is stringing both women and I have no respect for that actually. He needs to make a clear unequivocal choice. But I don’t necessarily think that should mean he loses his job. I think there are a lot of holier than thou hypocrites who pretend to be outraged by these scenarios but they are doing so much worse–or at least, they think it. And so, whatever. So long as he didn’t use tax payer’s money for his misdeeds, I think this is between him and his wife. But I don’t know why she would want to be with a man who publicly called another woman his “soul mate.”

  7. phoebes-in-santa fe says:

admin, the problem is that Sanford ISN’T man enough to do something, other than whine and cry about it, about his great love for Maria. And, I believe it IS a great love, at least in his mind, which, after all, is where most great love are located!

I agree with you that he should not be forced to resign for the sex reasons. Just the governance stuff.

For his wife, as I said before, their marriage is dead, kaput, over, etc. I went through the same thing, my husband fell madly in love with another woman. Madly and passionately. I discovered the affair sort of mid-point. We went through a year and a half when I tried to “win him back”. You cannot “win a husband back” who sits sobbing in the bathtub at night because he can’t be with his “beloved”. Finally, I told myself that even if I did “win him back”, and he gave up the girlfriend, that he would never be really committed to me and to our marriage, and another girlfriend would come along.

We separated, best thing for everyone involved, and basically worked out the divorce terms ourselves – upsetting our two high priced lawyers! – and became good friends and good co-parents to our two sons. He never did marry the “other woman”; their love did cool off after a year or so.

Let me ask who would you chose to get a surgery from a person who worked hard and received an Ivy League education, or one who does not care about education (especially science) and drifts and somehow manages to get a degree. She showed her true character, by quitting (cut and run) just like her college years. She couldn’t even give a decent exit speech (her railings against the media was sweet until she did an about face and ask them to go on a fishing trip with her to clarify her “Rambling Rose” comments). She was right for Alaska (with a population of less than 700,000), and her education matches it (journalism degree from the University of Idaho in 1987). But if you think anyone who wants to get our country back on track after the fiasco of the last administration with our economy and the fabrication of two wars then you along with the empty party are completely lost (are you surprise about the election results?). For the previous eight years we put up with a dullard president, but no more, you may try in 2012 but our eyes are open. I have heard that Republicans lost because God was against them, I can only say look at the candidates the Republicans put forward on their national ticket and don’t make the same mistake again. Mavericks, please, more like flash over substance (she quit and he fumbled) and the majority of voters saw it. We both know that she is cashing out, book deal, a show (Radio/TV), speaking engagements, she will keep stringing her followers along as long as she keeps the possibility open for running in 2012.

  9. Benito says:

When she accepted the VP nomination, she knew she needed to bring her professional game up to another level, she never did. She knew that her family would get attacked as did Hilary and Chelsea before her (by even her twin maverick brother McCain in 1998), let face it she knew her family affairs would come out. But now she plays the victim card again, a card she played after those comical first extended interviews that we all enjoyed and SNL immortalized. But for the icing on the cake, she quits, because she does not want to be a lame duck governor, because the lawsuits keep coming, because it was the media’s fault, because seeing Russia from her house finally got to her, because its not fair that Alaskan’s paid her salary while she was running for the VP position, take your pick. So what does she tells us? Dear Mr. President, when things get tough, quit. Dear military men and women, if you are not having fun, quit. Dear son or daughter, if things are not going your way, quit. Sure, I agree when she first was introduced and gave a descent speech, sure the polls went up, but after the extended interviews, they went where they ended, down. She showed her true character, I really hope the book deal, Radio/ TV shows and the lecture circuits make up for what her party has lost by her actions. She may go down in history as the quitter that twittered.

  10. Anonymouse says:

the quitter that twuttered? I like that. I agree with everyone here. She
Definitely is getting picked on and she definitely should have known
Better than to accept mccains offer. But I agree with admin. She was
Right to resign. But that fishing trip with the media was weird
I think it is ok to quit sometimes
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting
    A different result
More people should quit if something is nor working and try something
    Different
It is unproductive and a waste of time and resources to keep at something
    That isn’t working
    Change.
    Quit.
Do whatever it takes to find your own success
Being govornor of Alaska wasn’t working for palin anymore
So she quit and she is looking for another avenue to success
    That is sane
    That is smart
    That is productive
Benito you are technically right but practically you would make a poo
    Leader
You are the type of foolish leader who would march your army
Over a cliff just to prove you are not a quitter

  11. Greg says:

Palin obviously got a better offer. Her
Political career is over but she will ink a seven
Figure book deal and a talk show before 2009
Our generation’s most dangerous year is through

  12. Paul says:

Can anyone real tell me that you were impressed by her exit speech? You can’t real believe that she is the only person that can win in 2012. You know, if she can’t take a joke, don’t get in the game, its politics, they all get kicked around. Let me paint you a picture, in my opinion, for the last eight years where the mantra was no regulation and no oversight and spread to all federal agencies and the justice department was filled by unqualified religious types and the dullard (ex-drunk) religious president started two wars of choice with extreme tax dollar spending, is anyone surprised with our current economic situation because of those choices. Sure “W” sucker the religious right to vote for him and that’s why he placed unqualified people in positions of responsibility and they failed (almost a “plan to fail”), do you forget Katrina, where the Director of FEMA Michael D. Brown, was relieved of his duties because of incompetence? Or can you forget disgraced White House correspondent James Guckert, AKA Jeff Gannon, the male escort, why was a male escort getting into the Whitehouse, hmmm? I know it was Barney Frank’s fault, he controls the county and republicans had their hands tied (even though 7 of the last 8 years they had the majority and the presidency to do something (fact or fiction?), but not the will to act). Oh, by the way I read that God blog, very funny, it reminds me of those TV evangelists who claim the talk to God and want so and so foreign country leader to be killed or such and such a us state to be punished by God for a court ruling that intelligent design is just another word for religion. We had enough of religious dullards in our government. If you believe that the USA has strayed from God then go out to your communities and preach to your neighbors, the sick, the shut ins, the poor and invite them to take part in your church, build a community. But I know that’s hard work we want a government official to do that for us, well they tried that and look where it left us, in the gutter, but our country does not quit and we will rise again. Do you remember how Ronald Reagan got us out of a recession? By spending and we will do the same. But she is just another “W” in heels and she is stringing the religious right along, she will sell you her books, her radio/TV shows and speaking engagements. Lastly, I do not want you to believe what I believe, so please keep writing, feel free, I am starting to enjoy this.

  13. Helio says:

    ah shocks!

  14. phoebes-in-santa fe says:

Paul and Benito, I like your posts, particularly Paul’s second one. The last eight years were terrible and I’m still shocked we didn’t descend into chaos, with no one watching the economy the last year or so of Bush’s administration.

And as for Sarah Palin, let’s hope we’ve seen the last of her, except maybe on Fox. She’ll fit in well with the other knuckle-draggers on that network.

  15. viva says:

Where did you get the idea that Sarah Palin is
    “anti-divorce”??? Ha!

    Next thing you’ll be saying she’s “anti-adultery” . . . .
    not so, Grasshopper.
