NEW YORK: A widow named Ruth Madoff…150 years!

The judge threw the book at Bernie Madoff today, giving him 150 years in the slammer. It is over. He’s not coming back. This is not a divorce. This is a woman who has lost her husband forever. …

As I listened to the newscast, I couldn’t help feeling bad for him. I know. I know. Nobody should have sympathy for a guy like Bernie Madoff. Everybody should throw stones at him. I just can’t. There is a certain pathos to this guy. I am overwhelmed with compassion for him. Why? Why???? Why can’t I despise Bernie Madoff?  Why do I feel so sorry for him?

Ruth is now a widow. She’s a widow. In three years, she can pretty much remarry, as if he’s dead, pursuant to the Domestic Relations Laws of the State of New York.

Poor Bernie!? This guy committed crimes, and now he is paying for it. The real injustice is that he will serve more time than some murderers.

The only way that Ruth Madoff should be allowed to keep the money is if she agrees to give it to charity. If she doesn’t agree to give it the needy, she can spend the 150 years with her poor husband.

Too bad Johnny Cochran is dead.

Look, those so called innocent victims knew what they were getting into to. First of all, they try to play themselves off as poor old ladies in Florida geriatric centers but what people fail to realize is, you had to have a certain level of income to even invest with Bernie. Bernie didn’t just take anybody. Only a certain income level. These were seasoned investors. And they knew that Bernie was working some kind of “magic” and they looked the other way. Now all of a sudden, they are so penniless and so innocent and they are victims. Where did all the money go? To them! They got dividends and interest and advances. It’s not like they put the money there and never saw a dime. They have been getting billions in returns over the years.

Bernie made a big mistake by pleading guilty. He should have kept his mouth shut and let the prosecutors prove their case. He volunteered way too much information. He received bad advise.
His lawyer sold him out. Got him 150 years. Who would hire Sorkin after this? Anybody who hires Sorkin to defend a white collar crime is insane. It is his fault that Bernie got the “book thrown at him.” It didnt’ have to be this way.

When are they picking up Ruth, the sons, Peter Madoff and the niece? Cause they obviously were in on it and they need to be brought to justice. Can you imagine they left Ruth a millionaire?! This is some crazy justice. I just can’t believe it.

There will be an appeal. This sentence is excessive by any standard and Chin clearly buckled under the emotional dead weight of those investors. The Court of Appeals will vacate this sentence and remand for a more appropriate sentence of about 20 years. The only thing is that at 71, if he gets 20 years, that’s still a life/death sentence. But he only has to serve about 85% of that. So you figure he’ll be in the late 80’s. Still, a life/death sentence. But not 150 years. Although, I have to say, I saw him in the courtroom today. I was sitting in the jury box. I strongly doubt he will last one year. He really looked like hell.

Obviously, my first sympathies are with the victims. That is a foregone conclusion and is obvious. I’m just saying that when all is said and done, there is something very sad about Madoff. I don’t mean to feel this way. I just do. I try not to feel this way and I can’t seem to stop myself. I apologize to any victim who is offended by that. But I am just sharing my views and being honest.

I kinda feel sorry for him too. It’s weird.

I have followed your blog and not once did I hear you say you feel sorry for the victims. How would you like it if you worked your whole life and thought you were investing with a trustworthy guy and you put all your money in this nest egg and he steals it all? You are now in paupery and you’re in your 60 or 70’s about to retire? All your retirement is gone. You have nothing to leave your grandchildren. Not even the college fund you set aside. How would you like that? I frankly didn’t care if they turned him loose or not. I just want somebody to tell me how to get my money back. How to get my life back. You feel sorry for Madoff? What about those of us he robbed? Do you feel sorry for us? 150 years is nothing. With his luck he will be dead in five years. What has he suffered? He hasn’t suffered enough.

Admin, why in the world would you feel sorry for this low life?
