ARE YOU ABUSING ALCOHOL IN ORDER TO COPE WITH YOUR DIVORCE?
Divorce has been known to turn a few people into raging alcoholics. Especially for us guys who need to appear tough and in control but for whom so much is out of our control during this difficult time.
The consequences can go far beyond just getting pulled over for a DUI. Abusing alcohol can actually cause you to lose custody and parenting time with your kids.
There are alternatives to turning to cans and bottles to cope with a difficult interlude in your life – whether you are male or female. You can choose instead not to internalize the problem so much and join a support group. There are all these groups for men and fathers and also for women and mothers. Just google “divorce support groups” or even “divorce meetup” and there will be more than enough to choose from.
You can also choose to take a faith-based approach, getting back to church, for example. You can take classes such as culinary, self defense and photography. You can start new activities and past-times, like starting a YouTube channel about something that interests you and working on keeping it updated.
Nothing of course beats a good workout at the gym. And it is a great environment for bonding as well.
The point is that alcohol is usually not the best response when dealing with divorce.
